For as long back as we can remember, London has been the hotbed for construction in the UK. The home of the big hitters with the big projects earning the big bucks. Whilst London is still extremely busy and getting busier by the day, the gap between London and the North seems to be ever closing.

Just recently, we have seen two major projects awarded. With Lendlease securing the £350m new Olympic village and similar contracts being awarded on what seems like a week-on-week basis, the North is no longer London’s lesser sibling.

Despite the uncertainties of Brexit, investment has continued to pour in, with Manchester having the 2nd highest number of cranes in Europe and this trend is set to continue.

High-end residential seems a market to focus on, with land prices a fraction of that in the capital. Wates, (the countries 2nd largest main contractor according to construction enquirer), already ear-marking the North as a key market for them moving forward into 2019.

For myself, a recruiter who focuses purely on the façade market in the Midlands & the North, this is a fantastic sign and there has never been a better time to be a façade professional in the North.
